Greetings,
During this time of year we tend to step up our skincare regimen to rid our bodies of the dry flaky skin brought on by the onset winter. Choosing the wrong skin care exfoliate product can cause you to have a medical emergency.
When clients come into the store wanting to purchase our Peppermint Sea Salt Body Scrub or Mango Lime Sugar Body Polish, the first questions I ask are, "Do you have high blood pressure or been diagnosed with diabetes?" They always ask (sometimes annoyed) what their medical diagnosis has to do with it. Well, it has a lot to do with it. The skin is the largest organ of our bodies. That which is absorbed through our skin passes on into our blood system.
Many people do not know that if they have issues with high blood pressure they should not use skin care products containing salt. These include body scrubs, bath salts and soaks. When choosing a body product, check the ingredients for sodium which is another term used for salt.
Most bath soaks contain sodium carbonate which is used to soften water. Sugar scrubs/polishers are the best skin care exfoliate products for clients with high blood pressure.
The other side of the coin is clients who are diabetic. Diabetic clients have issues with the absorption of sugar. Using a sugar based skin care product can send their numbers off the charts! You guessed it. A good sea salt scrub is the product they should use.
We often overlook our skin care regimen when updating our physicians of changes we may have made since our last visit. This information should not be excluded because it could affect your doctors' decision to prescribe a higher dosage of medicine to control the sudden change in your condition. Instead of taking a higher dosage or additional medicines, you may simply need to change your skin care regimen. So please, be aware.
Don't forget to moisturize with a rich creamy body butter afterwards. Exfoliating without moisturizing can lead to premature wrinkling. Yuck!
